Frequently Asked Questions

Electronic Cigarettes

What is an electronic cigarette?

An electronic cigarette consists of four main parts:

The battery unit usually has a lithium-ion battery, which is rechargeable and this powers the device. Entry-level electronic cigarettes have an internal battery but more advanced devices have a removable battery which can be changed once it is no longer holding charge.

2.Liquid Holder/Container
The liquid holder/container is usually referred to as a clearomizer or tank and contains a heating element within called an atomizer (head). This is powered by the battery and heats the E-Liquid, which once inhaled produces vapour.

The eLiquid is the final element of an electronic cigarette and this is available in different flavours, base and strengths.

The charger usually consists of two components, one being the mains adapter and the other being a USB cable connector.

What is the cost?

The costs of electronic cigarettes vary depending on the type. Most beginner kits range from £20-£40, intermediate kits usually cost £40-£60 and advanced kits costs £60 upwards. See our kits section for accurate prices.

In terms of the maintenance cost, this is relatively low as the only items that need to be purchased in the short-term are atomizer heads (if you have a replaceable clearomizer/tank) and E-Liquid. All ranging from £2.50 – £4.00.

Typically, atomizer heads or coils as they are sometimes referred to, last approximately 2-4 weeks. This is all dependent on frequency of use and the battery voltage. The higher the voltage the less the lifespan of the atomizer head will be. All ranging from £5.00 – £20.00.

Another cost saving initiative would be to buy a new inner coil piece rather than a whole new liquid container.

Why are there so many different ecigarettes available?

What are the ingredients in E-Liquids?

UKAS accredited laboratories have conducted research alongside the hundreds of other similar tests that have been carried out by different bodies within the industry, as well as independent government testing. The multitude of tests demonstrates precisely what is in the liquid ingredients:

  1. Propylene Glycol (PG): Propylene Glycol is high quality pharmaceutical grade, in combination with the nicotine and flavours PG gives you more of a throat hit.
  2. Vegetable Glycerine (VG): Glycerine helps to produce more vapour and holds more flavour. VG is thicker in consistency and holds more flavour.
  3. Nicotine: Optional strengths up to 24mg.
  4. Water
  5. Food grade flavourings that give the eLiquid its taste

There is a lot of information on the web that can teach you all you need to know, but here are some basics:

What Is Propylene Glycol?

  • Propylene Glycol is used in the majority of liquids that people vaporize. It clear and slightly sweet tastes, and has a higher viscosity (thickness) than water. It has been declared as “generally recognised as safe” for human consumption since the 1970’s and we have all been ingesting it in various forms for years; in our foods. Ever taken a tablet for a headache that has a shiny smooth coating? That’s PG in one form. PG is derived from Glycerin, which is in turn derived from vegetables, so you could call it organic, but there is definitely some lab work done to get to the liquid that people vape every day. Because the liquid is thicker than water, but not thick/viscous enough to vape on its own.

What Is Vegetable Glycerin?

  • Vegetable Glycerin is a food additive used to thicken things up and to help preserve them for a longer life. It is a clear liquid, with a slightly sweet taste and has a higher viscosity than water, and PG. Applications include sweeteners that you might choose over sugar in your coffee, or, quite literally; the icing on the cake! It’s used in e-liquids for vaping as a thickening agent, so as to prevent leaks and also as an alternative to PG majority flavours. Considered by some to be a more natural/organic choice of liquid to vape.

What's the nicotine MG rating all about?

As with your preferred cigarette brand, liquids can come in stronger or weaker varieties.

The Milligram rating (mg) on a liquid refers to the amount of Nicotine in that liquid. The higher the rating, the stronger the throat hit, the more harsh the vape and the faster your craving is satisfied. Some people will want a nice harsh taste to their liquids, so that they feel as small a difference between vaping and smoking. These people choose a mid-high mg rated liquid, as it tastes better for them and helps to satisfy their cravings more quickly. Others will be happy to continue with a nice fresh fruity liquid, with a low mg rating. They will enjoy the sensation of still exhaling something, which in turn satisfies their craving for Nicotine and yet is not detrimental to their health; like an old fashioned cigarette made of Tar and 4000 other chemicals. There are even liquids produced with a ZERO mg rating for people who want to drop their vaporizer completely at some stage, and are successfully weaning themselves off by using a 0mg liquid; but still getting all the visual triggers to help satisfy their cravings. Some people have even used 0mg liquids to START vaping, instead of having that one cigar that they always enjoy at Christmas. Why not? It’s a proven fact that vaping a 0mg liquid is safer than lighting a cigar.

What nicotine strength should I choose?

This is up to you.

Are these suitable for vegetarians?

Yes, all our products are suitable for vegetarians.

Why does the eLiquid sometimes change colour?

With some eLiquids when they are exposed to air and light they sometimes change colour, this is perfectly normal. If the eLiquid in your clearomizer turns into a dark brown/black colour, you may need to change your clearomizer or replace the atomizer head in the unit (if it is a replaceable clearomizer).

How long does a 10ml bottle of eLiquid last?

A 10ml bottle should last you approximately 5-7 days, this is for an average user. A standard clearomizer has a 1.6ml capacity and this often lasts a whole day for the average user.

My battery won’t charge?

If your battery is not charging it may be due to a number of different factors. Firstly, ensure that the charger you are using is the correct charger for the battery. We recommend that you only purchase chargers from our website to ensure that they work correctly and safely. Next, make sure that you are charging the battery the correct way. Some batteries are charged via the top connection (510 chargers); others such as the iTaste VV 3.0 are charged from the bottom via a micro USB. Mods that take external batteries require an external charger for the battery cells.

Sometimes the contact on the battery may be depressed due to over tightening – a simple fix for this is to raise the pin.

My battery won’t turn on?

Firstly, make sure that your battery is charged significantly before using it. The batteries we send out normally have some charge in them but some may be completely dead and will require charging before use.

Different devices have different methods to turn the battery on. The most common ways to turn the battery on is to press the button 3 times.

If none of these methods work please refer to the specific product page on our website or give us a call on “our number” or email info@thevapourcentre.com.

Which clearomizers/tanks are compatible with my battery?

Batteries or Mods are either 510 or eGo compatible. On a 510 battery you can only use a ‘510’ clearomizer/tank, an Ego clearomizer can be used but you will need an adapter.

Ego style batteries can accept both 510 and Ego clearomizers – no adapters are needed.

A point to note is that when changing different clearomizers and tanks on your battery/mod you may find that a new type of clearomizer/tank does not work. This may happen as different clearomizers/tank have varying pin heights. Therefore, the battery connection plate may be pressed down on – by just a millimetre even. This may not allow a clearomzier or tank to work on your battery. However, there is a simple fix for this, all you have to do is raise the pin/plate on the battery connection by a few millimetres at most.

What is a Passthrough battery?

A passthrough battery gives you the option to charge and vape simultaneously. These batteries usually have a charging port at the bottom of the unit. Our most popular Passthrough battery is the iTaste VV 3.0 battery.

How long do batteries last?

Below are averages for different size batteries, these approximations refer to continuous use (non-stop vaping).

  1. 650mAh battery: 2-3 hours
  2. 1100mAh battery: 3-5 hours
  3. 2600mAh battery: 8-10 hours

Above approximations are for a fixed voltage of 4volts, turning the voltage higher will give less battery time. Conversely, lowering the voltage will increase battery life.

What is the lifespan of the atomizer and how do I tell it needs replacing?

Atomizer refers to the atomizer head that is in all clearomizers and tanks. The atomizer head refers to the element, which is heated when the battery is activated and this is responsible for producing the vapour.

Typically atomizer heads last for about 2-4 weeks but this is not the case all the time. As they are very fragile they can stop working after a few days if they are used excessively or if the voltage is too high. All atomizers have a Dead on Arrival warranty, this means that as soon as you receive the product you need to test it to see if it works, as soon as it works the warranty period ends. Atomizer heads are referred to as disposable goods and are not meant to last longer than a few weeks.

The majority, of clearomziers/tanks we sell are replaceable units; this means that the only part that needs to be changed within the unit is the atomizer head. You can tell if the atomizer head needs to be replaced when there is a significant lack of vapour or if you get a burning almost smoky taste.

My clearomizer/tank is leaking?

This could be due to you accidentally spilling the liquid through the airway of the atomizer or its faulty. Contact us to discuss on info@thevapourcentre.com.

What are rebuildable atomizers?

Completely rebuildable tanks are primarily aimed at advanced users as some RBAs can be complex to set up.

Newbies can use these products too but it should be noted that they may run in to problems and may not get the unit to work at its optimal level. Essentially, a rebuildable unit has two posts (some have more), one post is positive and the other is negative. In order to get the unit to work a coil needs to be created that goes from the positive post to the negative one. Within this coil there needs to be material that can absorb eLiquid, the most popular type of material is Ekowool. Both the Ekowool and the wire that is used to make the coils are available in varying grades of thickness.

Why are there different resistances?

Different resistances for different volume and strength of smoke.

Can I use the same clearomizer/tank with another liquid?

Yes you can but it is recommended that your have a different tank for each eLiquid you use. This is because unless you clean the clearomizer/tank meticulously, there will always be a hint of the previous flavour.

Why does the eLiquid in my clearomizer/tank change colour?

With some eLiquids when they are exposed to air and light they sometimes change colour, this is perfectly normal. If the eLiquid in your clearomizer turns into a dark brown/black colour, you may need to change your clearomizer or replace the atomizer head in the unit (if it is a replaceable clearomizer).

Product Aftercare

How do I use the products?

The majority of our beginner products are very straightforward to use and have online videos as well as instruction booklets.

How should I maintain the products?

With all the products we sell, we recommend that you treat them with care. Batteries need to be stored appropriately and safely as they can be dangerous if misused.

For example, battery cells should never be stored in your pocket with other metal objects like coins or keys as this can short out the battery and cause a hazard. Battery cells should be stored in a safe area away from metal objects or in a plastic storage container.

I am not happy with my products, what do I do?

The Vapour Centre wants you to be satisfied with the products you have purchased as we pride ourselves on our levels of customer service. Please get in touch with our customer services team to discuss what the issues are on support@vapourcentre.co.uk.

What should I do if I think my product is faulty/not working?

If you think that your products are faulty the first thing to do is to read through our FAQs as the answer to the most common problems can be found here.

Alternatively, you can pick up the phone and give us a call on “our number” or email us at support@thevapourcentre.com.

Can I Use An Electronic Cigarette To Quit Smoking?

This is a very common question and the official answer is NO because Electronic Cigarettes are not Smoking Cessation Devices or licenced pharmaceutical products.

We market our products as a Smoking Alternative.

However, you can use your Electronic Cigarette for any reason you choose providing you are of legal age.

Are Electronic Cigarettes Regulated?

Yes! There is a lot of misinformation on the internet and in the press claiming that Electronic Cigarettes are not regulated, but the term Not Regulated is very misleading and grossly inaccurate. Sales of Electronic Cigarettes are covered by the General Product Safety Directive (GPSD) and general consumer protection laws. Electronic Cigarettes are regulated by several government bodies including CHIP, COSHH, NMO and Trading Standards. Products are inspected, tested and analysed for possible toxicity and dangerous contaminants.

Electronic Cigarettes are regulated in the UK.

Electronic Cigarettes are not regulated as a medicine because the device is not a pharmaceutical product and therefore cannot be regulated by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Caffeine is another example of a product or drug that does not require regulation as a medicine.

Is There A Danger Of Passive Smoke?

No. There is no physical smoke with an Electronic Cigarette. When someone uses an Electronic Cigarette, they exhale Water Vapour. It is not possible to passively smoke as nothing is burned.
